As one drives onto the parish campus, on the lawn by the chapel is a walking path, called a labyrinth. A labyrinth is a spiritual homing device. The purpose of a labyrinth is the journey – walking to the center and from the center out again. In walking the path, one has time to reflect on whatever is on one’s mind, or whatever sits in one’s heart. Walking is a way of focusing, and walking on a circular path toward a center point is a way of directing one’s mind and heart to the center of being. The journey of walking a labyrinth for people of God is to connect with God along the way – walking, pausing, perhaps sitting for a time – moving inward, then outward.
The Faith Formation Committee continues to provide seasonal prayers for people to use while walking the labyrinth. There is a box mounted on a post at the entrance to the labyrinth containing copies of a seasonal prayer for anyone to use while walking the labyrinth. In the box, there also is a book for people to write down any insights or prayers that inspire them while walking the labyrinth.
